Tasty Morsels

I grew up a very picky eater. I knew what I liked and I was sticking to it. Well, times have changed and I will apparently try anything. Some fun tasting experiments in Paris included escargots, which I love, foie gras, another love, rabbit, frogs legs, yes they taste like tender chicken, blood sausage, sounds retched but is palatable, etc. And a new love of spicy mustard.

Now we are in Africa and i cannot even visually identify some of the game we have eaten. We went to a big group dinner. The restaurant offered a mix game plate. Of course, we had to try it, so Todd ordered the game plate and I ordered a seafood platter. Oysters! yummy as was the Kingclip, but those are not the exotic things I am referring to.

Todd mentioned the cheetah feeding with zebra meat, well we also got to try this horse like animal; Horse being the major domesticated animal in France I could not bring myself to taste or even consider tasting. A bit tough but overall pretty good. The best morsels game from the antelope family, cooked to the perfect temperature of medium-rare. Springbok is awesome; tender, juicy, rich with flavor. We also tried kudu and oryx. Good but not as tasty as the springbok. Let's not forget the ostrich burger. Which left me wanting a good ole Montana bison burger. And finally the crocodile bites, kabob, and burger. it is a rough meat. Fits its personality I guess, but in a country that lacks sharp knives tough meat is no good.

Overall, it is simple. I love food and that apparently now includes a whole slew of items that my childhood eating habits would have left me at the kitchen table refusing to have just one bite. Cheers to my more mature eating habits!
