Still at the Buddha Bar....

We can't seem to leave San Pedro. It's actually kind of funny. We've been here 8 days now, doing very little other than hanging out. True, we did take spanish class for 5 days, but that's all over now, yet somehow we're still here.

San Pedro
Sangria night with the crew at Pinnochio's.

We were going to leave tomorrow for Antigua, but somebody made some sangria and convinced us that staying was a good idea. Certainly doesn't seem like a bad idea. This now means that we'll be here until Monday, at least, because we want to go to Chichicastenango for the world famous artisan market that's there. That's on Sunday, so we'll so it in a daytrip from here, meaning that Monday will be the first chance to get out of the city. Who knows if we'll take it. Maybe we'll just spend the entire trip here, but I don't think that's too likely. Still so much to see, but the break has been fantastic. Erin and I were getting a little tired of the pace of the trip, one night here, two nights there, packing, unpacking, repeating. Just gets to you a bit, so settling here has been a great change of pace.

In addition, I got violently ill last Saturday, which prevented us from going to the market last weekend. It stayed with me through one of the worst nights of sickness I've had in a very long time. It was much worse than the time I had giardia, but then it only lasted about a day and a half. Giardia was an endeavor that lasted through winter and spring. That's endurance for you. Monday morning I was starting to feel pretty good, getting back into shape. Erin, the entire while, was feeling great, out hanging with the friends we were meeting, enjoying herself while still keeping me in as much health as possible. Then the inevitable happened. She got sick. Of course. Right when I was starting to feel pretty good, she fell ill. She missed her last day of spanish class on Wednesday because of it, but then we rescheduled it, so not a worry. She woke up Thursday, went to class for 4 hours, came back and took a 2 hour nap. It's incredible how much you can sleep when you're sick. The lethargy just weighs on you and it's impossible to do anything other than lay down, but then you're not sleepy tired, just exhausted, so you're bored out of your mind. It was a fantastic 5 day period for us both.

That's about it, really. Life has slowed down quite a bit. I had a delicious hamburger and fries for lunch and thought it was the best thing I'd eaten in awhile. Something about beef on a bun with fried potatoes just puts my heart at ease.

Oh, and in case your wondering about this wonderful bar that we keep hanging out at, here's a link for it.
