Deep thoughts, (I promise)

We have left, finally left the little oasis of San Pedro. I honestly didn't know if this would happen. As Todd alluded, great times, new friends, a little school, a lot of sick, a trip to the market, and some yummy sangria later...we actually did leave on Monday. Buying the ticket and spending the money was a good incentive.

Chichicastenango
Market Day

Our last highlight was definitely a day at the Chichi market. Chichicastenango is the epicenter of artisan trading. It brings traders from across the country. The colors are amazing. The ladies still make a lot of their own clothes and blankets.

Chichicastenango
Market Day

Bright shades of the rainbow delight the eyes with every turn. We did a day trip from San Pedro, a quick 2hr drive there, 4hrs of shopping and browsing and 2hrs more on the return. But very much worth the time. Todd and I strategized, bargained, and managed a great time.

Antigua

Now, we're in Antigua. On the shuttle ride here I found myself contemplating the toilet. I have never before considered the idea or most possible fact that toilets are not sold as a complete unit rather 'all parts sold separately'. Reminds me of the toy commercials 'batteries sold separately', 'toilet seat not included.' But after some time in Mexico and Guatemala, I can't help but be baffled at the lack of toilet seats. Gross and inconvenient.Anyway, my mind tends to wonder on the long bus rides. Now you are privy to my inner thoughts.

Right now, I am laying in a bed, listening to the rain fall, watching CIS in English. It has been weeks since I have watched tv, so this seems like a great luxury. Not much going on today so I will leave you with some pictures of our time in San Pedro and the market.

Did you guys feel the 7.1 quake in Honduras? Rico was in Chiapas near the Lacondon Jungle and felt it. Maybe you weren't even aware that there was a quake in Honduras!

We've apparently been in about 3 different earthquakes without knowing it.  Apparently a hammock keeps you earthquake-proof.  Maybe we'll feel one one day.  Hopefully it's not tomorrow when we climb some volcanoes!
