From Mendoza with Mullets

We're in Mendoza. Finally. It's strange to arrive in a city you've planned on living in for an extended amount of time, without having ever visited before. You hope that your expectations aren't too far off from the reality, but you know, in your heart, that your expectations have no basis in reality. But you still have them in the end. So our arrival in Mendoza after the 19 hour bus ride was interesting for us both. Keenly looking out the window, trying see where we were right and where we were wrong. FYI, we were mostly wrong. Mendoza is actually a medium-sized city with most of the amenities you would expect of a tourist town. It's also a fairly new city after the earthquake/fire combo of 1861, which would take out most any town. Not so much of the colonial feel of Salta, it's just kind of a new city, filled with restaurants and cafes, sushi restaurants (expensive!) and grills sprawling over the pedestrian walkways. In short, it seems to have the makings of a real city that we could enjoy living in. We've noticed buses running around the streets, transporting people from one side of town to the other.

The funniest part about the day was sitting down,

Mendoza
Having our first beers.

having our celebratory we-made-it beers, watching the crazy amounts of mullets walk by. Straight mullets, mohawk mullets, spiked mullets, fem-mullets, you name it, we saw it. We are in the mullet capital of the world, clearly, which is frightening both for the reason that people have mullets and that if we stay here for long enough, we might think that having a mullet is somehow socially acceptable.

I can't say it's a city we're immediately falling in love with, but I can see it working for the time period we're talking about living here. Just making it through that first bit might be a touch difficult, but I suppose that's to be expected whenever you move to a new town. We only have 2 days here now, then a few with my folks for Christmas, then it's on like donkey kong, Mendoza. All your base are belong to us.

(For all those still confused about the "All your base" reference, here are some further links to clarify. Urban Dictionary The Onion And in case you think I'm the only one who knows this reference, that is not true. They even made t-shirts. Think Geek Cafe Press Wow.... I should just stop here.)

Awesome.  I thought Independence Missouri was the Mullet capital of the world, but I respect Mendoza's bid into the competition.  Let the battle of the Mulletiest begin. Who doesn't know that reference?  I mean, anyone who had an internet connection in the 90s and sat in front of a computer enough to give it a name knows what that reference is. ;-) Oh Betty, it's ok.  Just let me submit this comment... What? I know, you have a very nice mullet.  Well, if we let it grow out in the front I wouldn't be able to see the screen... I mean your face... Oh, Betty that was a good zing.  Yes.  Todd could easily shape his mop into a mullet.  Yes, We'll see if he does.  We'll see. You guys rule!

If you do happen to grow a mullet, I have the perfect gig for you next summer. Wedding Singer. I can just see it now... you on the synthesizer... Erin on the keytair... and tuxedo t-shirts. So awesome. Idaho won't know what hit them.

keytair= air keytar?  If that's where you were going, I'm liking your logic.

keytair = keyboard + guitar.... shoot. I spelled it wrong.
