Mexican Adventure Part 3

Alright, I know this comes right after #2, but I've got time and a story. I'll keep it short.

Last night I was in Villahermosa, as my bus from tuxlta got delayed until 12:30 and didn't get in until 7, I decided to spend the day cruising the Villa. Neat city. But I was drinking a coffee in a streetside cafe listening to an awesome marimba player rip it up, when somebody sat down at my table, and then some buddies sat down, started talking to me. One was a guy who said he went blind drinking. He really was blind. We talked for a couple of hours, then they said they had to go to a party for former alcoholics and invited me along. I'm thinking "I've got nothing better to do."

About half way through the conversation, one of the guys daughters comes up and sits down. She turned out to be a 20 year old high schooler who dropped out then restarted. Her dream was to be an airline stewardess, but she didn't meet the height requirement. The father asked me if I wanted to take her on my trip through the Yucatan. I'm still not sure if he was joking or not. I don't think he was. But he did say that I would have to bring her back, which isn't a good indication, I guess. Plus, it'd just be too expensive carrying around another person. So I said no.

I hopped in the car, a decked out lexus, which is unheard of here, and we go to, you guessed it, an AA meeting. I got to sit through an hour and a half of former alcoholics talk about the power of the group and the unity. I met a guy with cross eyes, from drinking, and a guy who "lost a finger drinking." He didn't have a pinky. After that, we step outside, they've got a personal tacos al pastor grill going, mariachis start right up as we step out, I munch, I laugh, I had a great time. They drove me to the bus station later. The music they decided to turn on was...none other than Cristina Aguilera, and guess what, they knew all the words and had no problem being 50 year old men singing crisina Aguilera at full volume.

It was a fun night.

See y'all, todd
