Day Trip!
I am a born procrastinator, so to avoid this hole you are getting an update on the actual day of this event. This is very exciting, I know. I got my teeth cleaned! Not exactly the most exciting event but very necessary for my pearly whites to feel loved again and shine their brightest.
But really, Today we road tripped to Senga Bay. Jeannie let us borrow her car and we headed east with a picnic lunch packed and ready to go. Haven't been on a highway for a long time where one of us was driving. I was a little scared. Between the hordes of people walking along the side of the road, to goats and chickens, bicycles, and trucks it feels like a game of frogger. Thankfully, Todd was in the drivers seat. I tried to keep my mouth shut but every now and then I would shout "Goat!" or "Chicken!" At least I tried.
Senga Bay was very pretty. It is on the shore of Lake Malawi, which looks more like an ocean because of its grand size. We drank some beer and watched little kids splash around in the foot of water just off shore. It was very entertaining. People always approach us with crafts for sale; bracelets, necklaces, wood carving, etc. It can get a little old, but the guys on the beach today were pretty cool. "Looking is free" they told me so no harm. Unfortunately for them, their crafts weren't so good. I am not in the market for a necklace with an elephant on one side and my name on the other.
Overall, it was great to get out of Lilongwe. It will take some time getting used to being in a car at high speeds again, but I am sure I will manage.
Now, off to eat some Indian food!
